About
As Recoilette, a Finnish singer-songwriter and producer, Jukka Paajanen explores the archived emotional crossroads where Twin Peaks meets Nordic noir. Since the 90’s, his music has been shaped by a built-in wistful, yet bittersweet layer on top of a darker undertone.
His musical background is a melting pot of different genres. He has been curious to develop his musical expressions in versatile manners, which has led him to compose and perform with groups in various genres, from death metal to synth-pop. Over the years, he has been a member of bands such as Underdøgs, Wild Bible, Ovali Virta, Caynoo and Adornment. Recoilette merges all these journeys together into cinematic songs where each different approach is occasionally illuminated. These layers, along with Jukka’s heartfelt yet woeful voice, introspective lyrics, dimensions, and tensions, create a rapturous synthesis that manifests itself as an escapist space far away from this mixed-up world of ones and zeros.
Among his very early influences that shaped his artistic vision, he adopted his father’s vast collection of 60’s & 70’s LPs and got carried away by listening, and playing along bands and artists like Pink Floyd, Electric Light Orchestra, The Doors, The Kinks and Neil Young, to name a few. ”Especially Pink Floyd. As a child, it was the soundtrack to everything, and a significant part of my childhood was colored by melancholic and psychedelic harmonies. And when I began creating my own songs, they just naturally emerged filled with minor chords, and they still do. Because of those early impressions, my goal as a musician is to deliver the feelings of reimagined timelessness”.
Most recently, Recoilette has released the debut single ’Venus And The Moon’ on 26th of April and is currently finishing up the rest of the songs for the EP & album that is to be released later in 2024.
"Venus And The Moon” is a song about those glimmering and comforting powers of being surrounded by nature. "For me, being outdoor alone is a spiritual experience where things find their right positions in the bigger context. This song was composed by a river during a solo hike in Norway. However, the lyrics found their place in early 2023 when Venus and the Moon were actually ”really close” to each other in the night sky here in north".
